Vaccinations

Childhood Vaccinations

Immunisation from an early age is recommended and helps protect your children from some of the most severe childhood infections, some of which can be life-threatening. Crawford Medical can manage your child’s vaccination programme.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis)

Whooping cough, also known officially as Pertussis, is highly contagious and is spread by coughing and sneezing. School children and young adults tend to be infected by their school friends. Many babies catch it from their older siblings or parents.

Crawford Medical can provide vaccinations against Whooping Cough.

Flu Vaccine (Influenza)

Annual immunisation before or during the influenza season is recommended for everyone who can be vaccinated. The vaccine is funded for all pregnant women, people from 65 years and certain at-risk groups from 6 months to 65 years.

Measles

MMR vaccine, given on-time, is the best way to prevent measles. It is available free in New Zealand to people born on/after 1 January 1969. Two doses of the MMR vaccine is 99% effective in preventing measles. No measles-only vaccine is available in New Zealand.

MMR vaccine, if given within 72 hours of exposure to measles virus, may provide protection to the unimmunised and thus limit the spread of measles.

Chickenpox (Varicella)

Chickenpox vaccine is delivered to children on the immunisation schedule at 15 months of age. Vaccination is recommended  for non-immune adolescents and adults, and non-immune woman prior to pregnancy. People with a weakened immune system are at high risk, but may not be able to have the vaccination themselves, so close contacts of these people are recommended to be vaccinated.  The vaccine is funded for certain high-risk individuals and/ or their close contacts.

Other vaccinations

Crawford Medical can also provide many other vaccinations. This can be especially important for patients who are considering travelling overseas.
